What a great idea!! Free Christmas Trees!
Our Church’s Christmas Community project…to give away free Christmas Trees to anyone who wants/needs one!
TODAY is also the day for another special event.
A maritime tradition since 1964. Whoa, that’s 50 years. Today is actually the CTV 51st Christmas Daddies. The staff of CTV of Halifax, Moncton and Sydney( with families and friends) volunteer to produce Christmas Daddies in December each year so Maritime children can have a better Christmas! Christmas Daddies is a telethon. A pledge-based variety show broadcast live. A cast of hundreds (from the very young to the young at heart) assist in the television production. Two CTV ( local television) personalities along with invited special guests host the show, and encourage viewers to phone in and make pledges. As well, a large number of individuals, community groups and companies appear on the telethon to make cheque presentations.
The uniqueness of the Christmas Daddies Telethon is that everyone who participates is a volunteer. It is the longest running telethon in North America. Since the program’s first broadcast in 1964, Christmas Daddies has raised over $28 million dollars for less fortunate children. Money raised stays in the area from which it came, for example funds donated from Bridgewater to the Christmas Daddies Telethon are returned to the Bridgewater area. It really is a wonderful thing.
This year, for the first time, the live telecast is on Saturday. rather than Sunday It has people concerned as to whether as many people will tune in and watch and participate. I guess we’ll know after today.
LOTS happening today…Food drives, Toy drives, Whimsical Christmas, giveaways, donations…it feels good to GIVE and to HELP those that struggle and need a little extra help this time of year! It’s a GREAT rainy Saturday along the South Shore!
