Today is 11/11
A day to remember family…
I never have the right words to say on this day to remember, but one thing I know…
I AM SO THANKFUL!!!!
This year people are more thankful, more respectful. I think the shooting in Ottawa last month has made people pause and reflect a bit. Prime Minister Stephen Harper was in China last week to meet with President Xi Jinping for the Apec Summit but left early so he could be home for the Remembrance Day service today on Parliament Hill.
A new road close to Bridgewater is going to be named after Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, the reservist who was gunned down and killed in Ottawa last month while guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier. The road is in Osprey Village across the street from the retail complex (Walmart, Canadian Tire, Swiss Chalet, etc.) The new road is in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg. It will be called Nathan Cirillo Road.
Bridgewater has a Veteran’s Park. It is well taken care of. I think more people visited there this week. I think people are waiting to decorate for Christmas until after today. I think more people are buying and wearing poppies. I think more people are taking the time to stop and chat with the Veterans, men and women, that volunteer at these booths.
All these things…maybe I just haven’t noticed because I’ve been away. Maybe it’s because I’ve been living in or close to as the world sees it “higher risk countries” BUT this I know, I am thankful to live in Canada, to be Canadian, and so thankful for past military ( family) and current military that serve our country well, that protect it, and keep it the peaceful land it is.
PS~ And on a different note…In China 11/11 has an entirely different meaning. It is known as “Singles Day” 1111. AND it is China’s busiest online shopping day. Online shopping sales are in to billions of dollars! Many people spend today on the computer looking for the great sales!! That’s what some of my Chinese friend’s did today 😀 Interesting…
