Bedtime STOREieS

I didn’t realize how difficult it was to find a bedroom set. Ok here’s the STORY…

We NEED a new bed. After almost three months we are still struggling to get a good night’s rest. Our current bed is about 10 years old so I am not sure if it’s just time for a new one or if it’s too soft. And we want a bigger one. We currently have a queen but it was so wonderful having a king size bed in China and it’s pretty easy to get used to that. And China beds are quite a bit firmer than North American beds, so maybe it’s just too soft.

We wanted to buy local so we went to Sears. We “tried” out a few different mattresses and found one we thought was perfect for us and we ordered it. It will be here sometime next week. To buy a bed…no problem!

We thought since we were buying a bed and needed a new frame that we would find a good quality frame, rather a bed (headboard, footboard and frame) and 2 matching end tables that would match or at least compliment our beautiful, rather large, antique Queen Anne bureau that we got from David’s grandfather. It is a beautiful piece and really special to us. Well, would you believe it is the hardest thing to find wood in a similar color! EVERYTHING is dark these days.

We searched locally and then stated looking online. One store in the city looked like they had something and in king size ( a few that we thought might work weren’t available in king) so today after work we went in to check it out. Well, the color wasn’t at all like it was online and so it wasn’t gonna work. The style and design was lovely BUT when you are paying that kind of money… I told David I really didn’t want to just settle for something that was ok and still not match. If we were buying a complete bedroom set, it would be a different story.

At the Atrium in Dartmouth, there are a few different furniture stores and so we thought we’d take a look. Smart thinking on our part, we took a drawer from our bureau so we could match color and I can’t believe it! We found a set that matches as perfect as we’ll ever find I think. ONLY problem is… it won’t be ready until the middle of December and our mattress will come next week!

I guess we’ll figure something out! But I am just so excited after looking and looking that we will FINALLY have something that will match the piece that is so special to us.

Here is the set in Queen, we will get a King. The picture doesn’t really do it justice…it’s beautiful and with our bedding and silk duvet from China, it will be PERFECT!

And now I am off to bed, goodnight!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
