In Search of “THE BEST” Fish & Chips

Fish & Chips is a staple food along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. We LOVE our fresh haddock and we can be pretty picky about it. There are so many great spots along the coast where it is a feature on the menu. This summer ( well since we got home from August until Thanksgiving weekend because thats when a lot of seasonal places close) just for fun, I thought we would search for “THE BEST”.

I am really thinking I may have to revisit this post next year, there are so many more that we didn’t get chance to try!

So here is our list…

August 1~ Island View Restaurant, Western Shore

August 4~The South Shore Fish Shack, Lunenburg

August 12~ Halls Harbour Lobster Pound & Restaurant in the Annapolis Valley

August 14~ The Old Fish Factory Restaurant & Ice House Bar, Lunenburg ( added shrimp and scallops to this order)

August 24~ Pearles in Paradise

August 29~ Salty’s, Halifax Waterfront

September 15~ John’s Lunch, Dartmouth

IMG_3620September 17~ The South Shore Fish Shack, Lunenburg ( 2nd time)

September 25 ~ The Last Port Motel Family Restaurant in Canso, Nova Scotia

September 26~ Trio Restaurant, Sydney Nova Scotia

October 9~ Waves Seafood & Grill, Bridgewater ( We did take out )

I would have to say from these places we went to, my favourite fish is still from Pearle’s in Paradise in the Annapolis Valley. BUT my favourite place for EVERYTHING…restaurant view, atmosphere, presentation, fish etc… is

They have the very best view in the Port of Lunenburg overlooking the water and directly behind the Bluenose. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, inside or out, it is charming. I like the presentation how it is packaged in cardboard boxes with the checked paper and the food…everything they serve seafood is delicious!! I am sure this restaurant had an excellent first season and I can’t wait to go back here when they re-open in the Spring.

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
