We left Cheticamp this morning and finished the Cabot Trail close to Baddeck, making sure we stopped at the famous Herring Choker to pick up picnic foods…salad, sandwiches and lemonade… to enjoy at lunch time. What a wonderful drive and like I said in a few weeks the colours will pop and it will be amazing. We had a great couple days on the island, our first together there, and who knows, maybe we will come back again. I would REALLY love to see the “reds” mixed in the hills and mountains and spend some time hiking!
We took an alternate route again today. The North Shore follows the “Sunrise Trail” along Nova Scotia’s North Shore where “warm waters” along sandy shorelines and rugged coastal highlands of Cape George and St. George’s Bay are the highlight. This is an area we have not explored so today we took a quick diversion from Antigonish up to Cape George to see what this area was like.
Lots of driving through back country roads really with some beautiful homes, that David and I often asked, Why? Why here? but when you get close to the coast it’s beautiful. Small fishing villages mixed with farmland and beautiful large farms and you understand. It’s the best of both…farming and fishing!
We stopped at Mahoney’s Beach for our picnic lunch, almost wishing we were dressed for the beautiful weather. There were even locals taking a refreshing dip! Then it was up the coast to Cape George and to see the Lighthouse and on to New Glasgow.
We arrived late afternoon and I had a power nap while David washed the car. Not too much to see and do in New Glasgow but it was a convenient stopping place so we’ll go out for some dinner and relax. That’s what vacations are for too. I just get too busy sometimes wanting to do!!!!
