Tonight we had dinner with our Chinese friends. We won’t say goodbye to them just yet…Tonight it was a chance to meet their son in person, face to face…he’s HOME!
Wei Chen Xi has been studying to be a pilot in Canada this last year. He left for Canada just before we arrived from Brazil and he finally came back to Beijing last week. He has graduated from the Flight School in Moncton, New Brunswick (actually based in Fredericton) and still has a major exam to take in Beijing before he is an official pilot. He studies at Beihang University, previously known as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Beihang University is one of the ten highest ranking engineering universities in China. He is home in Shenyang until he can take this three day extensive test, and His parents are so proud. Our friends played host a few times when our son James was visiting Shenyang, now It was finally our chance to meet their son and celebrate his success, and treat him to dinner…western food of course, just in case he is missing it! But it’s funny really because we found out that they had a Chinese chef with them the whole year to cook for them.
We treated them to the #1 restaurant in Shenyang ( out of 1510 as voted by Trip Advisor) Olive’s has a great menu and not too overwhelming for our friends who are not used to eating Western food.
We had a wonderful evening with our friends and it was fun to speak English with their son and find out some of his thoughts about his year in Canada. He is a great young man and we wish him all the best as he becomes a pilot!
And speaking of sons, our son James, after studying 4 years and working a year has decided to go back to school in the Fall. He is accepted at NSCC and will take Business in our hometown, which means we will enjoy having him live home for a couple years. It’s been awhile…
In the meantime this summer he is working as wait staff at the Old Fish Factory Restaurant in Lunenburg. Stop in and say Hi if you’re in the area. James would be happy to serve you! Love that smile James!
