Children of Cambodia

  • FACTS
  • More than 50% of people in Cambodia are under 21 years old, and over one third of the population lives below the poverty line.
  • The number of street children (estimated at 10,000 to 20,000) is increasing at a rate of 20 per cent per year. Factors as to why children are on the streets include poverty, domestic violence, rapid population growth, and rural-urban migration.

Something that truly has captured my heart in Cambodia are the beautiful children. The MANY children that hang out at the temple EVERY day  just to pick up a few dollars from the tourists.

“Just a dolla mame” “Pleeeease…. oh the faces…and the smiles when you buy one more bracelet or one more of whatever…. ” Where you from mame? What’s your name mame? Anna please buy from me! You remember me, Anna” Words that tug at your heart. Eyes that look at you pleading. David doesn’t dare give me very much money when we go in to the temples because this is where I would become very poor…I LOVE these beautiful Cambodian children!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
