So…our choices for apartments. The RESULTS are in!!! Polls indicated many of you would choose Apartment  # 1 and #3.It didn’t seem that  the VIEW was an important consideration for many of you.

Here is what we found…

APARTMENT #1~ Our OLD Apartment

It has absolutely beautiful furniture, everything matching, wonderful design. Marble and wood floors, crown moulding. It has an enclosed balcony and a swing. A huge jacuzzi tub is wonderful to relax in after a stressful day and after not having a bath tub all last year in BRAZIL.

No one has lived in the apartment since we lived in it and it is VERY dusty, I MEAN very dusty. The furniture has not been covered and it feels like dust has settled in to everything. The other downfall is although the living room furniture is lovely it is not very comfortable. It is formal and David likes to recline and relax when he comes home from working. VERY comfortable furniture is something we are looking for this time, especially after the couch we had in Brazil. The landlord did say that she would buy a recliner. Hmmm? Do we stick to what we know…I liked it VERY much BUT there is NO view and it is the same place. Where is the adventure in that?

APARTMENT #2~ 16th Floor with A VIEW on ALL SIDES!

An AMAZING view daytime and night time. VERY peaceful, very relaxing. The furniture in the living room is very comfortable, plain, nothing fancy but VERY comfortable. The landlord says she will put a big flat screen TV on the wall. ( Important for watching movies and SPORTS) The kitchen is big and laid out well with LOTS of storage. It has a very nice view for when you are doing dishes or baking. It is very bright and pleasant. The washing machine is an expensive heavy duty washer/dryer combo that would make it so nice to dry bedding and towels instead of letting everything dry on the rack like we have been used to the last few years. It has a wonderful deep bathtub, maybe not a big bathroom.

The office was intended as the Master Bedroom but they wanted to use it as an office, so the ensuite is off the office and not the Master. The Master bedroom is small. If some adjustments could be made to switch the rooms back to original then maybe that would be ok. It doesn’t have much space for hanging clothes and we have a lot of clothes (not just me) and shoes and coats. We also need place to store bicycles, and boxes from our shipment that we won’t need in China. Hmm? Do we go with the AMAZING view and make the rest work. We know how to be flexible!

APARTMENT #3~ 11th Floor Chinese style with a good view

Maybe this apartment has everything. It has a good view. Beautiful furniture, nice big modern kitchen, good size master bath with a beautiful ensuite and large tub. There is a lot of storage cabinets and it is very pleasant apartment.

The furniture is beautiful but again very formal. More comfortable than Apartment 1 but still formal. The decor and lighting is very chinesy and also the apartment has a few condensation issues in the winter. We have been to this apartment before to visit our friends. Hmm? Do we want to have the same apartment friends lived in or do we want our own? Do we want to decorate in more Chinese style?

Sorry it took so long to post the results but we had to wait until all our requests were met and the contract was signed. Thank you all so very much for your comments and opinions we really appreciated your input and thoughts. And….(drum roll please) the apartment of our choosing is …..

Compromise is a wonderful thing. I WANTED to live at Eastern Venice by the park and river and so David agreed. I think he would have preferred the city core this time. HIS CHOICE was #2 with THE VIEW!! I can live with that. It is absolutely beautiful.

SORRY NO MORE  PICTURES…You’ll just have to wait and see when we are moved in! Contract is signed and some modifications need to be made to the apartment. Michelin and Kelt Housing agency need to go back a couple times and we will go for 2 more checks. The last check hopefully July 24 when they will hand over the keys and the apartment will be ready to move in. I am really quite excited and can’t wait!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
