It’s Winter!

June 21 is WINTER! You heard it right, the first day of winter for us in Brazil. Good thing next week we go to China and it will be Summer!

Actually temperatures are not much different. We are very happy to be going from warm weather to warm weather. Hopefully it will reduce the chance of getting sick with a cold. Although I am really amazed how you adjust to the temperatures where you live. These fall and winter days in Brazil where temps are the 22-24 degree range, dipping down to 15-18 degrees at night, I am sitting bundled up with long pants and a hoodie, sometimes under a blanket ( especially in the evening) Last year, I thought the locals were crazy wearing warm coats and pants. Of course I was in shorts and finding it warm. Not this year!! A lot of days I am freezing! I even wore a hat and gloves when we were hiking in the mountains on Sunday, because I actually needed them. So,  No swimming for me! Actually pool hours are much shorter and it’s only the CrAzY foreigners that go on nice days…not for swimming…just tanning! It’s a long day for the poor life guards who can usually be found sleeping or cutting out early for a long leisurely lunch.

Seems like it’s only the bem-te-vi’s  using the pool.

It was the same in China, the first year in winter…it wasn’t too bad, it was cold, maybe it was a milder winter but I only remember wearing tights under my jeans a couple times. BUT the second year those -40 degree temps made me wear tights all the time, long underwear, and even the fur lined ones like the Chinese. The cold REALLY bites! I didn’t resort to the 2 and 3 pair of long underwear…BUT maybe this year after going from tropical temps. The REALLY great thing is that we’ll have a few months to adjust before the COLD Shenyang temps settle in.

Happy 1st day of Winter…or SUMMER!! 🙂

Out for a little comfort food tonight at Aglio e Olio in Penedo, a great Italian restaurant!

So delicious but I just don’t know how Brazilians can eat so late at night and then sleep!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
