So this afternoon, 1pm to be exact, associates from the shipping company FINK came to our apartment to assess our shipping needs, estimate our allotement, take pictures of art and decor items and set a time when they would come back and pack everything up for shipment! David worked 10-6 today so he had to leave work and come home for a little bit. He left at 1pm thinking that in typical Brazil fashion they would be late, BUT they were early or right on time! Oops David was late ( but only about 10 minutes)
The two guys from Fink were great!! Very pleasant and helpful, one guy in charge and doing all the inventory, calculations and picture taking, and the other guy there for translation purposes.
Fortunately I had everything ready! I knew they would need to take pictures but I thought it was ONLY of the paintings and stone birds we bought in Brazil. But they needed pictures of all decor type items. So…there was a little bit of digging, unpacking and re organizing so they could see what they needed and do their job. Our bigger items…bicycles, patio furniture, art and candle lamps etc… will be added on the day they come to pack as we are still using them now!
Well, Believe it or not when they were all finished we were OVER our limit! This made no sense whatsoever to David & I because we took far less to Brazil then China, and every year you are allowed 10% more! Hmm? BUT, Brazil being Brazil does things different, of course! They calculate by size, rather than weight like we were accustomed to AND things like a Christmas tree and some of our art are BIGGER, AWKWARD items that made our size bigger. Well, only by a bit…the allowed limit is 5.45 square meters for air shipment, and we were over just a wee bit. Our estimated size was 5.8 square meters. David called Rio!
And great news!!! It is such a small difference and because it is only an estimate the people in Rio said it will be allowed, and most likely when they actually pack us up…it will be less anyway! Ahhh…relief!
I guess that means I can’t buy anything else… to go in the shipment anyway!
