Today is Valentine’s Day!
The February 14th Valentine’s Day is NOT celebrated at all in Brazil because it usually falls too close to or after Carnaval (that can fall anywhere from early February to early March and lasts almost a week) Because of the absence of Valentine’s Day and the celebrations of Carnaval, Brazil is a popular tourist spot during February for Western singles to get away from the holiday!! Brazilians celebrate Valentine’s Day June 12 and couples exchange gifts, chocolates, cards and flower bouquets.
But for the Western countries and actually much of the world, today is Valentine’s Day and the most widely celebrated holiday after New Year’s, even though it is a working holiday.
We LOVE celebrating the February 14th Sweethearts Day! Since we are cruising this weekend, and David is working evenings today we had a lovely Valentine’s Day lunch in Penedo complete with our favorite Brazil chocolate truffles and coffee!
David reminded me this morning that we have been blessed to celebrate the February 14th Valentine’s Day in Foreign countries for the last 3 years. It’s been wonderful! And who knows… we might be celebrating Valentine’s Day 2 more times this year…June 12 in Brazil and August 13 in China!
