Carnaval Celebrations in Resende!

Well first, before I tell you about the Carnaval celebrations in Resende, I have to say that I am REALLY enjoying watching the AMAZING stuff that goes on at the Sombodromo in Rio from the comfort of my apartment. I mean, to be honest… I am not much of a late night person and these performances start at 10pm and go to 4 and 5am!! And you pay BIG bucks to get the comfy booths, otherwise you sit on bleachers. So really I am happy to stay home,( comfy in my Pj’s on the couch with a good snack) away from the crazy of Rio, and see  this fantastic event on TV and go to bed EARLIER ( at about 2am) after I watch a few schools each night.

Maybe down the road I will regret this “Once in a Lifetime” opportunity since we are right here! When we first came to Brazil two things we were definitely gonna try to do was Carnaval and go to the Amazon ( we even got the Malaria pills in case). Well after careful research once we were here, neither one seemed to interest us ENOUGH to go through the hassle and expense to do it. There are too many other things to experience, LOTS we HAVE experienced and too many on our list that we won’t get chance to do. So…

From the Sambodromo in Rio sitting on my couch, here are  pics of some of the very elaborate costumes, floats and displays…

and look who’s in Rio tonight watching Carnaval…

NOW…Resende…What to say?

On Saturday at lunch we went for a walk just to see where things were gonna take place. The road was blocked off and they were setting up bleachers and a couple stages, and food and drink tents along the river. Resende is like Bridgewater and Rio is like Toronto if you were to compare the calabre of an event like this! BUT, at least Resende does have things going on! We tried to enjoy a bit of what was offered. Hey David & I even dressed up! And…then in typical Brazil fashion just as we were getting ready to go to the festivities…the heavens opened up and the crashing thunder and lightning began for a good 45 minutes! China may have their fireworks for New Year but in the summer and for Carnaval, Brazil has these CrAZy thunder and lightning crashes that will lift you off your seat! So…we waited…and waited…and decided that it would be much MORE fun to watch when it wasn’t raining. And we almost made up our mind to try another night when the rain stopped and so we called some friends and a few of us went for a walk. We decided not to dress up, grabbed our umbrellas and off we went. It was a late start, not too much going on when we first got there but things FINALLY got underway…

This is where things are gonna happen!

All dressed up and no place to go! It rained on our parade :(

Rain stopped but the sky still looked pretty dark!

And it started to rain again...
And it started to rain again…

Everything is more fun with friends!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
