To Market…and then the Mountains…

Well I could REALLY call this post…MARKET, MACAWS, MONKEYS, MOUNTAINS & MUD, MEAT and to the MALL!! If I wanted to use all M words!! haha 🙂 We had a MARVELOUS day!!

Sunday Mornings is the big outdoor market about 30 minutes a way in Volta Redonda. We thought it would be a fun thing for Laura to experience. We stopped for a few pics on the way into the city of Volta Redonda so she could see what Favelas sort of look like ( she will see those next weekend in Rio) This Market is as close to China markets as you get in Brazil. David & I love this market and it was fun to share it with Laura.

Since we were already in Volta Redonda we thought we would make a quick trip to the Zoo. It is AMAZING to see the macaws, monkeys , parrots and toucans in the wild in Brazil BUT there is NO guarantee…so we wanted to make sure Laura saw these amazing animals and we were so fortunate to see the sweetest monkeys in the wild ( uncaged) on the zoo grounds. They were so funny because they were sneaking in the macaw cages and stealing fruit!

And my favorite pics from the Zoo…I am sooo happy David’s new camera has wonderful zoom quality!

Then a quick stop at our apartment for lunch and get our sneakers and it was off to the mountains. We had to get there in time before they shut the hiking trail to the waterfalls! It was so muddy at Itatiaia National Park with all the rain we’ve had. There were a few places that looked like maybe some mud slides and one of the waterfalls was closed. The AMAZING thing was that all the falls, even the really little ones, were FULL and flowing quite fast… and very beautiful! The jungle was wet and lush, and the hike today even in the mud, was so much fun!!

A great day for a dip in the water pools

By this time everyone was STARVING!! But not for long because when you go to a Brazilian Churrascaria…ohhhhhhhhhhhh the MEAT!!! So much great food! Another fun experience.

When we got home and cleaned up, Laura & David took a quick run to the mall for some munchies and to see what movies were playing in English. Maybe we will see a movie later this week.

Well that’s it for today! It was a full one and I am ready for BED!

Wishing you great new week!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
