Chilean artist found dead on famous Brazilian steps he spent his life decorating
- Jorge Selaron was discovered on the staircase outside his house in Rio
- Police refused to disclose the cause of death but have not ruled out murder
- They are investigating reports the artist received death threats
This is shocking news to read this morning. We have visited Selaron’s stairs in Rio many times and each time we have seen the famous artist there at work and posing for pictures. He is on site most days always creating, always changing the stairs, adding new tiles and it is very amusing to watch.
Chilean artist Jorge Selaron, 65, was found dead in the morning, along the famous staircase of colored tiles created by him to the Lapa area of central Rio de Janeiro. The artist’s body was charred. According to witnesses, the man was receiving threats for some time. One of the suspects is a former employee of his studio, he wanted to force him to give him the proceeds from the sale of pictures.

Selaron, Thank you for creating color and beauty in a dingy area…a tribute to Brazil and the people!
And in other news…
WE had crazy heavy rains yesterday and last night with major flooding in the towns of Penedo and Itatiaia. David was working the evening shift and the major road, the Dutra, was closed down for hours because of a mud slide blocking the road and backing up traffic. So…he couldn’t even get home until 2:30am. This morning Penedo, the little Finnish touristy town is still flooded. ( Pictures are from friends’ of David’s that live in Penedo)
Well I guess they don’t need to add water to the pool for awhile…probably not gonna be a swimming day today. Actually all those rains really cooled the temperatures. It’s downright chilly here this morning!
Happy Friday EVERYONE! What are your plans for the weekend?
