Reveillon…New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is called Reveillon in Brazil. It is celebrated in many different ways in all regions of Brazil, but nothing can compare to the beauty of festivities on the beach. Fireworks, concerts and traditions merge to create the magic of Reveillon. The “PLACE” to be for this celebration is Copacabana beach!

On New Year’s Eve, the Brazilian coast lights up as crowds gather on the beach, and EVERYONE  wears white for peace, placing candles on the sand, tossing flowers in the ocean and waiting for the fireworks which ring in the New Year. Back in early December the stores had MANY displays of  clothing…everything white for New Year’s. David & I knew we wouldn’t be in Brazil so we did the “white”thing a little early!

This year New Year’s in Rio de Janeiro promises to be truly amazing! At 11:45 a video performance will warm up the crowd and present to the thousands of spectators the official logo and mascot for the 2016 Olympic Games. Then there will be a laser light show until five minutes before midnight, after that a special “blackout” followed by an incredible 20 minute “pyro musicado” spectacular that combines music with the most famous pyro technicians in the world. These special fireworks, besides welcoming in the new year will begin what has been called the Golden Decade for Rio.

Part of me wishes we would have arranged our Christmas Home trip a little different so that we could be back in Brazil to experience New Year’s Eve first hand.  How cool it would have been to be in Rio de Janeiro to ring in the New Year.

Last year we were in Shanghai, China with James for New Year’s Eve and it is an experience I will never forget.

This year, December 31, 2012, we are HOME… in cold, snowy Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, CANADA! We are enjoying a quiet night with our family but having one of the tastiest things you can get this time of year on the east coast…LOBSTER, yum!!

Then we were off to Pleasant River to spend the rest of 2012 with Andrew & Kristina and ring in the New Year.

FIRECRACKERS/FIREWORKS are always a hit to celebrate the New Year! They are not quite as good as China but still so much FUN!!!

We are so Thankful to be in Canada celebrating with our family! The coming of a new year…

Wishing all our Family & Friends “A HAPPY NEW YEAR” Be safe!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
