He Passed!

He passed! He Passed! That’s right! David passed his test for his Brazilian Driver’s License!

Brazilian law states that a foreigner living in Brazil may drive for 6 months using his own license and his passport. ( We didn’t need to get an international license after all) After that he MUST take the Brazilian test. Well, this test is NOT what you would expect…

There are two parts…

FIRST part

was to go to Rio de Janeiro for more fingerprinting at an office called DETRAN. As if he didn’t need more fingerprints taken. That he did no problem 3 weeks ago. Well if you can say traveling through crazy morning rush hour traffic no problem!

SECOND part was yesterday.

A written test here in Resende. Sounds easy enough right? WRONG! The test is in Portuguese and David was not allowed a translator or help from Google translate on his iphone AND instead of a “rules of the road” test which David quickly learned “the rules” or “how to drive like a Brazilian” by driving in Brazil for the last 7 months, it was a Psych test! Yep, that’s right a Psych test! Knowing that had him a little concerned. David being David…has NEVER failed a test in his life! So last week he got his Portuguese teacher, Rafael,to give him a few pointers again with language and what to expect for wording, and yesterday at 1:00pm off he went to do his test! He thought he would write it and be back at work in no time. Little did he realize that it was a few different parts. An interview all in Portuguese and then a series of different tests. Some of which looked like this…

A little bit ridiculous I think. But after about 2 hours of testing and then an eye test, the instructor told him he passed!! Hurray!!

And in about 2 weeks he will have his license in hand. ( it gets sent to Rio and then couriered to Resende) I will post a pic when it arrives 🙂

Congrats Sweetie, I’m proud of you!! You are OFFICIALLY a Brazilian driver!

And as I promised a picture of David’s Brazil license.

It's Official!
It’s Official!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
