All Souls’ Day in BRAZIL

Today Brazil commemorates All Souls’ Day (Dia de Finados in Portuguese, meaning Day of the Deceased). It is a Public Holiday and a day off for most people. It is also called Remembrance Day but it is not the same day that we commemorate as Remembrance Day in Canada, but is more like the All Soul’s Day on November 1st, a Holiday that is hardly recognized in Canada. Many people in Brazil  see the extended holiday more as a reason to travel than as a quiet occasion for praying and honoring deceased relatives and friends. Some people will spend today visiting cemeteries and attending religious services.

So we are doing as the Brazilians and traveling, making the most of another long weekend! Actually we are really making the most of a long weekend because I am doing this post from São Paulo Airport as we wait to catch our 3am flight.  I love all the Holidays and days off Brazil has. This time we’re flying Aerolineas Argentinas  to the nearby country of Argentina.

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
