Ohh I am getting SOOOOOO excited!!!!! Tomorrow evening we fly home to Canada for a bit of vacation time. I have lots to do before then but I am glad because it makes the time go so quickly. Even though I am very excited, I hate to think about it too much because when we leave tomorrow it will be bittersweet. You see, my friend Pam, another expat wife whom I’ve met since coming to Brazil will leave for her home in the US on Saturday. But Pam won’t return in 10 days or so… Pam will be going home for good! Her husband’s assignment is soon finished and it is time for them to return home. Pam is the first of the girls to say goodbye!

The girls have been spending quality time together this week, going to Sao Paulo, out for walks and lunch, last minute trips to the bikini factory…Today was our last time to meet at Bobs with Pam and our last lunch at our favorite kilo place with Pam. A chance to enjoy and celebrate the friendship that we’ve developed as expat wives!

It is fun to listen to Pam, Elise and Marlene recall their first days exploring Resende ( Marlene was the first to arrive and Pam & Elise soon after) figuring things out…finding out the hard way that Bob’s was a great meeting place to chat and have a bottle of water but don’t order their burgers! Haha…I didn’t hear that story until a few weeks after we were here and then it was already too late…
They were the first three… the girls that had most things figured out and it made things so much easier for the rest of us. They knew were to buy fruit & veggies, meat, what market was the best, where to buy certain “hard to find” items, how to walk on the cobblestone sidewalks( Pam broke her arm) and so many more things.

It is wonderful to have such a great group of ladies. As you know, from my posts, life as an expat wife is an adjustment. As ladies, we have our own issues, different from our husbands who are working all day. Some of our issues as women are the same, but we each have different things that will bother us on a given day, and the support we have for each other here in Resende has been terrific and I would say a big part of that, especially for me, has been Pam!

Pam we will miss you!!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
