It’s A Sad Day For Brazil Men’s Soccer Fans

Brazil National team

I guess the predictions were a little off…

“As one of the favorites to win the men’s soccer tournament in London, Brazil is under pressure to finally win its first gold medal in the competition. And to help ensure the young team doesn’t get distracted, coach Mano Menezes has decided to keep his players away from the debauchery of the Olympic Village and instead sequester them off in a hotel in the Hertfordshire countryside north of Greater London.” says Yahoo Sports writer Brook Peck.

Smart thinking by coach Menezes! Brazil was in London with a purpose and they did everything in their power to best prepare to succeed.

It came down to Brazil and Mexico in the FINAL. These two teams in head to head competition, both excellent teams with the best of the best of their countries best soccer players.

The game was telecast in Brazil at 11am this morning and since we do not have Sports network or any other channel other than Brazil Global, we went to the Internet cafe and watched with the locals!

Watching the game with the locals
Great to watch on a big screen 🙂

It was a little tense…within the first 30 seconds Mexico scored a goal. Despite repeated attempts by the Brazil team they couldn’t tie the score by the end of  half.

The second half was just as tense, I suppose when you have two teams as good as these two, it’s gonna be that way. I was surprised there weren’t as many people at the cafe as we thought, although every shop and corner store had the game on. Even though Brazil dominated the ball most of the second half, Mexico was playing tough defense and Brazil was barely ably to get a shot. At 75 minutes Mexico scored their second goal! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At 90 minutes Brazil was able to score and with just a few minutes left, missed an opportunity that could have tied things up…talk about a tense game! That ends the game and Mexico wins Olympic Gold 2-1!

Brazil didn’t win GOLD, and somehow Silver doesn’t sound like a great consolation when you are talking Brazil soccer. Looks like Mexico will be one of the teams to beat in World Cup in 2014 in Brazil.

Congrats Mexico! ( Some of our friends are thrilled)

Now off to enjoy the rest of this gorgeous day in Brazil!

Adventure For Two

I am from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm back from traveling with my husband on an expat assignment to foreign lands. 2011-2012 we were in Shenyang, China. Spring 2012- Spring 2013 we were in Resende,RJ Brazil then back to Shenyang, China in July 2013 until the end of July 2014. Expat life WAS amazing! Adventure abounds no matter where we travel to. We really enjoyed the amazing opportunity to live and experience culture and tradition in these places. BUT now we are finished and adjusting to life in our small town in Canada. Our days of travel and adventure are not over.
